The 2025 Shenyang Cheongsam Culture Season concluded in Shenyang, Liaoning Province on August 30. This event comprehensively showcases the achievements of Shenyang's cheongsam fashion industry in terms of craftsmanship, fashion design, cultural heritage and coordinated development. With a visual and cultural feast that blends tradition and modernity, it highlights that Shenyang's cheongsam fashion industry combines both the "face that amazes the world" and the "substance of scientific development".
The cheongsam is an important cultural calling card and fashion symbol of Shenyang. Shenyang has held cheongsam cultural activities for nine consecutive years. At the closing ceremony of this event, the "Research Report on the Development Index of Shenyang's Cheongsam Fashion Industry (2025)" jointly compiled by the China National Textile and Apparel Association (hereinafter referred to as "CNTAC"), the Liaoning Textile and Apparel Association, and the Publicity Department of the Shenyang Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China was officially released. This report aims to scientifically measure and lead the development of the cheongsam industry through digital means, injecting new impetus into the modern transformation and international dissemination of traditional clothing culture.
During the index release session, Yang Jinchun, the executive vice president of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, introduced the system composition, data sources and preliminary analysis results of the "Shenyang · Cheongsam Fashion Industry Development Index". This index system starts from three dimensions: the level of innovation and development, prosperity, and social influence. By collecting a vast amount of industry data and using scientific models for calculation, it forms a "barometer" and "compass" that can objectively and dynamically reflect the new characteristics, new trends, and new demands of the national cheongsam fashion industry.
Data shows that from 2022 to 2024, the value of the influence sub-index of the cheongsam fashion industry rose from 100 points in the base period to 151 points, with an average annual growth rate of over 22.9%. Among them, six sub-indicators, including the activation degree of traditional craftsmanship, the degree of cultural integration and innovation, the effectiveness of direct sales, the value of event linkage, the publicity intensity of mainstream media, and the dissemination degree of online topics, all maintained growth. Cheongsam has broken through the single production and manufacturing scope and entered a new stage of integrated development of "culture + textile and clothing + fashion".
Yang Jinchun said that the release of this index marks that China's cheongsam fashion industry has bid farewell to the traditional experience-based development model and entered a new stage of refined and digital management that is quantifiable, assessable and guiding. Subsequently, relevant parties will, in light of the new situation and demands of industrial development, continue to make efforts in improving the data management system, optimizing the index evaluation system, benchmarking against the global development trends of the textile and garment industry, and establishing indices for specific fields, to further enhance the guiding value of the indices and provide support for the high-quality development of China's fashion industry, with cheongsam as an important component.
At present, it is a crucial transitional period between the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the planning of the 15th Five-Year Plan. Accurately anchoring on the high-quality development direction and accelerating the supplementation and strengthening of the industrial chain have become key tasks for the industry's development. It is increasingly urgent to build a scientific and systematic assessment system that suits the actual situation of China's cheongsam fashion industry. Relying on its long-term advantages in serving industrial clusters, industrial parks, professional markets and enterprises, the China Textile Enterprise Association, supported by a vast amount of basic data, has designed an index model for the development of the cheongsam fashion industry. This model quantitatively assesses the development level of the national cheongsam fashion industry since 2022, comprehensively presenting the evolution of the industry.
